A popular parenting technique used in the 50’s and 60’s was the permissive parent. This style of parenting was brought on by the tragedies of World War II. Their theory was, “Instead of following, children are encouraged to think for themselves, avoid inhibitions, and not value conformity.” (Dinwiddie; pg.1) Rebellion from children was usually ignored, letting them learn from the outcomes of their own actions. With this idea in our present society, there would be an invisible line between right and wrong. This leads to confusion, poor decisions, and insecurities of oneself.
