...ich was know for there discipline and academics. Fidel Castro did not like the way Fulgencio Batista was running Cuba. Fulgencio Batista was leader of Cuba at the time. So that lead Castro to become a rebel. Fidel Castro made his own rebellion army to take away the power of Fulgencio Batista. On July 26, 1953, Fidel Castro and his group of rebellion army attacked Cuba’s second largest military base. Castro’s brother, Raul and about 150 revolutionaries planned to take over the base which was ran by 1000 soldiers. They did not succeed and half of the rebels got killed, captured, or got tortured. Fidel Castro and other survived but got captured. They went on trial on 1953 from August to October, for trying to defeat the Cuban Government. At the trial he accused Fulgencio Batista for violating the 1940 Constitution. Fidel Castro gave a speech known as the “History Will Absolve Me”. Fidel Castro was guilty of trying to defeat the Cuban Government and was sentenced 15 years in prison. Fidel Castro only served a little less than two years, in May 1955 he left prison. Then he went to México where he trained and recruited more rebels. After a year of preparation they Castro and his men decided to go back to Cuba. There they recruited a couple more of rebels. They took on small military units to get more weapons and supply. Also by doing this they encouraged more people to join after they showed them that they were able to take on small military units.
