Describing Gender Differences

All these stereotypes of men being more intelligent, stronger and tougher makes the women seem to be useless, less intelligent and weaker. Cofer also explains how women are presented as not being able to get a good career she writes “Since I do not wear my diplomas around my neck for all to see, I have on occasion been sent to that “kitchen” where some think I obviously belong” (417). So even if women or men are portrayed as something, they have the ability to be the opposite of what is said about them. When there are stereotypes the relationships between men and women could be damaged. For example a guy falls in love with a girl he doesn’t know. Then he starts asking people that know her things about her. Then he starts hearing that the girl is a slut and sleeps around with different men. He is going to see her differently as the other people described her and would probably prefer a different kind of girl. This stereotype affected a possible love relationship between a guy and a girl. Even if the rumors were not true everyone usually pays attention to what people say about other people. In this case stereotyping the girl brought a negative outcome for two people. Women are stereotyped more harshly than men because women are supposed to set a good example for her children; show them how a woman shouldn’t be like and the consequences of it. When someone says a girl sleeps around with different men she is said to be the worst. They call her “slut“, “bitch“, “whore“, “hooker” and many more awful words because of the she dresses with short skirt and tube tops or if she is always all over men when they are around. While men in the other hand if they do this they just show it off as if they should be proud of what they do. They are just called players and act as if they have nothing to be ashamed of for sleeping around with many different women. Society views women in this case as someone horrible but accepts this same act done by men more often and doesn’t judge them as bad as they do to women. The man of the house can do what ever he wants and the woman has to stick with him no matter what. If they stay together then nobody will notice that he has been unfaithful to her. They will pretend nothing happened so that other people won’t criticize them. Unfortunately this is how things usually are because people are afraid of being criticized. . When women say they want equal treatment as men they themselves contradict themselves. Women pay too much attention of how a boy or girl should act or what are the things appropriate for them to do depending on their sex. If a woman wants equality with men then why don’t they accept a boy playing with dolls or a girl playing with cars and trucks? If the people saw these kinds of actions then they would judge these kids as homosexuals. They are doing the things only ...
