... In 1776, it is understandable that the nation was not so large, that the only threat was the Mother country; England. However, in modern times, the threat has extended inside our country; or so the government says. Modern rules and regulations strictly monitor the entrances and exits of foreign people from our walls. Did Thomas Jefferson need a visa to go to France? I believe not. If all men are created equal, why are there quotas of how many nationals can enter from a specific country? Why are there more rigourous standards of checking health and intelligence for different people? It is understandable that our country needs to remain sterile and safe of evil, but how will checking only the suspicious people solve this? Who decides who is suspicious? Visas are extended to those who can afford it. So what happened to seeking a life of prosperity here, in America. It all needs to start somewhere. Especially after September 11th, 2001, the standards have raised as to decide who can be deemed worthy of having "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." Skin is certainly a factor. Our forefathers preached about how all men are equal. Did they not all own slaves? Were not all slaves looked upon as lower class? This hypocritical view continued into modern times; mainly the civil protests of African-American citizens being considered lower than whites. By definition, a citizen is one who shares the rights of all the rest of the citizens. Then why must the color of skin matter, when one is a citizen? It is because of the hypocrisy of our nation until present day. Consider being jailed for having an Islamic last name. A name you only have because it was your father's, and his father's father, and so on. It wasn't your choice. N...
