That is absolute misunderstanding. To be an excellent translator, a person should be learned not only on both English and Chinese but also on many subjects. And he is supposed to know nearly every aspect of life. In a word, he should be a “Mr. Know-all”. However that is just half of the story. There are too many differences between two languages. Sometimes in the process of translation it is hard to find suitable words in a language to express the meaning expressed in the other language. In those situations, the translator must think hard to find out different kinds of ways to solve the problems. I’d like to compare writing and translation to sculpture. But they are two different...
