I feel that the article is absurd and holds no ground. The success of the Cosby Show has no reflection on the lower class black American. The success of the Cosby Show is due to the humorous content and the hope of the poor that they might one day lead a life similar to that of the Cosbys. I think Hall’s article does show some good examples of inherit racism in the media. The black slave figure is rarely shown as strong or independent, more often times they are portrayed as well behaved and subordinate on the outside and sneaky or rebellious behind the scenes. American Indians or “Injunes” are also mostly portrayed as ruthless barbarians running around scalping white people or each other. Hollywood has put these stereotypes into the minds of many of the movie-watching public, especially in the older western movies. In today’s media if we take a look at daytime talk shows such as Maury Pauvich or Jerry Springer we can also find similar assimilations.
