Then, the constable came to the Foster’s house and told them that the yellow suit man is dead and they could not press charge on the Tucks because she was not kidnapped by them. Also, he told them that the Mae would be hung at the gallows. One night, Jesse came to say goodbye and gave her a bottle that contain the miracle water. He also told her about their plan to rescue Mae. Winifred wanted to help by pretending she was Mae in the cell to give them time to escape. The next morning the constable saw Winifred in the cell instead of Mae. He couldn’t press charges on Winifred because she was too young.
