Melting pot Vs. Salad bowl
... to you. It is only natural for you to feel more comfortable. It would be uncomfortable for a black man to be in a room with white men. As well would it be uncomfortable for a white man to be in a room of black men, Chinese men, Mexican men, ect. If there was a convention where people of all diferent races met at. The chances are that there would be a overwhelming number of clicks gathering together from there own respected races. With no disrespect of the others. It would just feel more natural to be with someone similar to you. When you are getting to know people. More often than not the first impression is not how what you say or how u act. It is made by the way you look. Sadly the saying don’t judge a book by its cover does not get respected as often as it should. Walls are needed to be broken down to begin to help people blend together to a dominate cultur. If people are set with their own beliefs and not opened for others the blending process would come to a abrupt stop. Everyone has there own personal view on everthing and everyone. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. The bad views are the ones that would cause problems. The way that people are raised have a big influence on what the views of an individual will be. Unfortunatly we are still living in the wake if of integration. The thoughts of our parents are getting passed down through the generations. Although the negative images are beginning to fade in the wake. Each generation is taking in the idea’s of there parents and using information they are gaining today in there own experiences and slowly making there own view known. Breaking down the walls has to go farther than the whites and the integration. It has to invlove all the different ethnic groups. Everyone needs to close there eyes and listen to each other. Instead of looking at each other and judging them. Break down the walls and put the rubble together in one big pile. That would be the best way to blend cultures. Another reason that america is more like a salad bowl is because of the past. Mainly regarding whites and blacks. A lot of people that live in the country you can still see the southern mentality. I live in a very big farming town. With a lot of people that love and are proud of our country background. Honestly I cant think of one of my friends that I havent heard make a racist joke or remark. Those same guys have a couple black friends that we have grown up with and feel real comfortable with. But if any new black guys would try to come into our group. There would be a lot of anxiety. I personally have not have one ounce of racism in me. I am always careful what I say when it comes to black people. But all my friends from the country fly the rebel flag everywhere they go. It is not spacifically a symble of slavery. But it is looked at it mostly for that. With African Americans, well I don’t think they should forget the past. To look at where they were just a few years ago should give them faith that someday this black white thing will be erased, and everyone will be treated equally. Another reason that makes it very very difficult for America to blend all the cultures together is that everyday there are thousands of families that come to the united states. That would be like trying to sweep a floor where there are 10 people eating out of the same bag of chips. Chips ...
