Binge Drinking and College Students

...st because they want to just fit it? All of those reasons could possibly be the answer, has to why college students binge drink. But young people surveyed said it was mainly “to just fit in at social activities and not feel left out.” Another reason why college students drink much more often than the average adult may be explained by the fact that they have just recently been freed of parental control and age restrictions regarding the purchase and consumption of alcohol. Other reasons may include trying to fit in (as I’ve already discussed), to experiment a new part of their life (alcohol), peer pressure, boredom (just having nothing else to do), to relieve stress, and/or depression. Although, standing above all the rest is peer pressure being number one and most people will never admit to falling into peer pressure; however, probably everyone has experienced it in one way or another, it is very real. At least two out of every five United State college students regularly binge drink, resulting in approximately 1,400 student deaths yearly, a distressing number of assaults, rapes, a shameful amount of vandalism and countless cases of academic suicide.
