...ould it still be a hate crime? I think so, because why would you drag someone to death behind a pickup truck for their wallet. Plus whether it was economic or hateful, the victim is still dead. I agree with Jensen’s statement that a hate crime is not murder necessarily, but trying to instill fear in a specific category of people. The KKK has terrorized people not to use their natural right to vote even thought they claim to be a “love group.” Which brings us to the definition of a terrorist. Defined as someone who is trying to create terror in a specific category of people or a victim with purpose of altering behavior. Jenson asks, “Is someone that threatens to spank their child a terrorist?” I thinks that’s a catch 22 because I guess by definition, yes, they are, but in reality know is with a parent intentions of teaching discipline to their child. Now they may not be right but I wouldn’t call the parent a terrorist. The purpose of their actions is not to instill terror but to prevent and action. Jenson hints at the idea that the penal system in America is a giant racist, terrorist organization. He says this because of the enormous rates that blacks, Latinos, and Indians are imprisoned and on death row. Compared to whites it is overwhelming. I would say the our penal system is definitely one sided but I don’t know if I would go as far as racist organization. The legislature is what is racist. Numbers make it clear that they have achieved the segregation of black males-into prisons-on a scale the KKK could only dream of. The only differences between the KKK and the system is the system has the legislation to back their action. Next, Jenson addresses the relationship between rape, women and hate crimes. A hate crime is defined as a crime in which the defendant intentionally selects a victim…because of the actual or perceived…gender. Why is rape not a hate crime? Jenson argues. If someone is killed for no meaningful reason other than their gender or race that is considered a hate crime. But a large percentage of rape victims are chosen for no meaningful reason other than their gender. So why is that not a hate crime. Jenson believes it is because of the patriarchal society we live in. But officials say it is because rape is covered by its own law, therefore it is not a hate crime. The same logic could be used in the argument for murder. Rape by itself is not a hate crime why? Rape is defined as carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against our will. Why does this not include males. The FBI defines a hate crime as a criminal offense committed against person, property, or society which is motivated in whole or in part by the offenders bias against race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. Again raping a woman just because she is a female doesn’t count. Another surprising fact is enslaving a man or otherwise forces him to work because he is black, that can not count as a hate crime. Again the legislation in this country is has failed and is being ignored because of the obvious paradoxes it presents. I cannot ove...
