religion is great
...newly discovered planet, he then forced thousands of Egyptians to go to this desert planet, where they were put into slavery. Ra is the self proclaimed king of the planet, all of this is shown near the middle of the movie when Sha’uri and Dr. Jackson figure out hieroglyphics left by the firsts of the civilization, explaining what happened to them. Another way my thesis is brought about is, in the beginning, when the archeologists find the stargate. By finding the stargate, it displays the natural curiosity in humans. The archeology represents the curiosity in humans and the stargate represents the repercussions of human’s curiosity. By digging for ancient artifacts, the archeologists found the stargate. This find was noticed by the U.S government, they decided to dedicate lots of time and money to study the meaning of this unknown device. Their technology could only get them so far, from there comes Dr. Jackson and his edgy, unfollowed beliefs in hieroglyphics and ancient Egypt. Dr. Jackson is then able to piece together the parts of the stargate, opens it and enters alongside a special American task force. Once inside, they set up camp and explore, but not before Col. O’Neill follows his secretive orders to set up an atomic bomb from which any possible threats would be destroyed. These orders come back to haunt the team and all of Earth near the end. Once the bomb was set up they leave it and Ra takes a hold of the bomb and plans to send it to earth with a special material that will increase the destructiveness one hundred fold. Ra’s plan shows how dangerous the repercussions of the curiosity in humans can be. The people of the foreign planet are very simple and live somewhat like the ancient Egyptians. They are not very smart when it comes to education but are very knowledgeable of the land they occupy. Compared to us, they lived in the past and do not show man signs of becoming technologically advanced, due to the lack of resources. When Dr. Jackson and his crew come to the planet, they are a technological catalyst to the advancement of these modern day ancient people. The type of history exemplified by the coming and helpfulness of the Americans. Even though these people live at the same time as Dr. Jackson and his team, they could be said to be living in the past. This can be said because they have no knowledge of the technology that exists and are way behind our society in almost every way. By going to this planet, they could of used it to start a new “Earth” and could prevent things from happening there that once happened on Earth. This planet could have been used as a safe haven to preserve some accomplishments and resources on Earth. Dr. Jackson breaks the barrier and interacts with the people of the planet and comes to understand their ways and seems to be liked equally by them. This interaction shows, possibly, how the ancient Egyptians thought of outsiders and the ways that they lived. Sha’uri, a girl that falls in love with Dr. Jackson, seems to form a very quick bond with the doctor , even though they cannot speak to one another. Another, non romantic, bond is formed by Col. O’Neill and Skaara, the “king’s” son. This is a quickly formed friendship and helps both sides to further understand each other and eventually helps to defeat Ra. Since these people were essentially identical to the Egyptians, the people on Earth could later find out the reasoning behind some things the ancient Egyptians did, by learning about the people on the newly discovered planet. One of the reasons Ra ruled these people, was the use of force against them and the lack of defense that they had. This is where military history comes into play in Stargate. If the few people sent over from Earth had not defended the people, then they would of most likely lived under Ra’s rule forever. Thanks to the smart tactics used by Col. O’Neill and his men, they are able to defeat Ra and his followers. These tactics are developed through out the movie and are perfected when Ra is finally defeated. This shows how the ancient people brought to the new planet were not violent and did not possess the ability to create effective weapons. This alien civilization had no chance of winning a rebellion with what they had and needed the most modern weapons there were; yet a hard time was still had defeating their captors. I think this shows how much militaries, weapons, tactics and their importance have changed over many years. They have changed to cope with all the other changes that have happened over the years. With the knowledge of weapons Ra had and the knowledge of the people of the planet had, it was a David and Goliath story of different proportions. Even though the planet’s people out numbered their enemies by a landslide, their weapon technology was almost non-existent. I have expressed the uses of militaristic and socialistic histories already; another history displayed in the movie uses combination of the two. Military-socialistic history is the main type of history portrayed in the movie. By interacting with each other, the American team and the people of the planet set up an unstoppable attack on R...
