The painting of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo DaVinci is an enigma itself in that the stimulus behind DaVinci’s reason to create this piece is questioned by many. In my opinion he was influenced by a woman he might have met who awakened his sexual desire and made him paint the smirking women. These included the Mona Lisa, Saint Anne, and a few other paintings of women, which all included the same sensual smile of the Mona Lisa. The views of woman sexuality were changing during this time and this drove a rise in men’s desire for woman. In the third and final illustration is clearly a religious work of art. An elderly man is either holding a book open for the winged female to read, or showing the woman the contents of the book. ...
