The Uncovered truth behind our fast food industries
...sser offers a summary to expand the importance of his study and research about the fast food industries. He states facts upon facts that the average consumer would not likely to know about these big name companies like McDonalds. For example, one in eight American workers has done time at McDonald's. McDonald's is the largest owner of retail property. It is the largest single purchaser of beef, pork and potatoes. McDonald's, which modernized marketing toward children, owns more private play space than any other company in the U.S.A. It wasn't always that way. Schlosser points out that, McDonald's growth into an American society has largely been in the last thirty years. McDonalds fast food approach has inspired many others, laying down stepping stones for many other corporations and businesses. “Fast Food Nation” is also filled with interviews with workers involved in every stage of the process of fast food, including the farmers and those who oppose to corporations advertising in schools and providing teaching materials. The inside of these companies are being exposed to by those who deal directly with making and/or managing within the fast food venues. Also Schlosser reveals some of the other big names that are affiliated with these fast food companies and how they contribute toward the growth of this industry. For example Schlosser compares Walt Disney, the founder of Disney and Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds as having the same vision on running their business. The book intensely examines the safety issues with the mass production of food for the fast food companies. It displays how mass producing food can be potentially dangerous and unhealthy. It almost seems that these entire fast food meals are artificial because they generate millions of these same meals. As I kept on reading, I realized that I didn’t know everything maybe even anything. Reading this book and learning about the secret side of the fast food industries allows people to make a better judgement on how they choose their diet. I believe that if more people were informed about the potential problems that fast food could cause to their children, their families and themselves they would make better decisions. I think this sets a good example that just because the society accepts it as a whole doesn’t mean that its good for you. I also feel that it also displays how people adapt to change and time. Some of the things I read in this book has made me rethink what I want to eat.
