The general Mills organization feels that when employees rotate they are being constantly challenged and it also keep fresh idea circulating. Another step was chain of command. The chain of command is the line that extends from the highest to the lowest levels of the organization. The chain of command clearly sates who is in charge and what role they play in the company. For example, those on the Senior Executive level, at the General Mills organization, are in charge of setting the goals and key strategies for the organization. Underneath them are the Division presidents, who are responsible for making sure that these goals are accomplished. After watching the video, I believe that General Mills follow the Matrix structure. Firstly, the chain of command works both vertically and horizontally. Though the senior executives are on top, the Division presidents are given flexibly on how they are going to accomplish the goals set out for them. Also the General Mills organization is one based on the “team environment”, Teams of employees from different departments work together on projects. In the video General Mills was trying to find out how to cut down on change over times they flew employees to Nascar events. Teams worked together and to in the end, they were able to cut the time down form 8 hours to twenty minutes. In the New York Times article, by Simon Romero, we learn that Trinidad is a country of many new accomplishments. Over the years, it has risen to be the Caribbean’s leading petroleum producer. More recently, they have taken the title of the Western hemisphere’s leading supplier of natural gas. Trinidad’s rise to the top began 10 years ago when BP and BG, energy companies in Britain, Respol of Spain and the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago got together and built a natural gas plant. This plant would work out to be the start in creating a new Trinidad, different from the country that suffered from a coup attempt, in 1990, made by Muslim militants. Trinidad’s new business ventures are helping to transform the country. In 2003 the economic activity increased 13 percent and is expected to do so again this year. Natural gas alone makes an output f 4.8 billion dollars yearly. Trinidad now also has many new chemical factories, some these being ammonia and iron and steel plants. They also have two of the largest menthol plants in the world. This new boom in business has Trinidad focusing on building a pipeline, worth $700 million, which would transport gas to seven islands in the eastern Caribbean.
