It takes effort to become the leader of this country. It all comes together in what most people know as the campaign trail. Winning the Presidency of the United States requires a competitive strategy, gimmicks and promotions, personality, and appeal to voters. “Political competition is mostly concerned with ‘products’, ‘marketing’, ‘customers’, and ‘differentiation’” (Johnson). The competition part of the election is a large portion of all the hype of the campaign. The candidates use numerous tactics to push themselves to the top of the barrel. They market themselves to win votes. When they are “marketing” themselves, they are presenting themselves to the public as they believe the public will approve of. The candidates are like products. They sell their point of view to the voters. The voters are like the customers. They decide which “product” they want to buy. It all seems to work like in business. Most of the candidates are very much alike. “Everything considered, as the delegates stream into the hall for the opening ceremonies, they generally are aware that their choice lies among fewer Hazen 2 than five men who have been working hard and expensively for a long time to convince them that they can win a majority of the votes in a nationwide test.
