Farmers Discontent

... Outside resources were needed to feed the urban population and there was a call out to the farmers of America, especially those in the West to mass produce crops and send them by train and any other means necessary back east. Farmers ended up overproducing crops and were making a minimal amount of money, if any at all, due to debased value of their product, high prices to move their product around the country and lack of laws allowing them to have any say in the standard price of their crop. The root of the farmer’s discontent was the fact that they had no power to do anything about their problems, although some of these problems could have been fixed if their had been more organization and unity between the farmers. The farmers had little chance to solve their problems when they had to convince a government that was solely in the pockets of the railroads, to rule on laws in favor of the farmers.
