A research study by Allan Marshall, of the Research Council for Science and the Humanities, found a high correlation between student’s self esteem, motivation and music education. Marshall concluded that music education reinforces a positive self image and creates positive experiences. (Marshall, 1998) This study supports the humanistic philosophy in which the classroom musical experiences are just as important as the music that is created.
