When she got there she realized that the hand was gone already, and this would be the end of the road for the young boy. “He saw all spoiled. Don’t let him cut my hand off- the doctor when he comes. Don’t let him, sister!” The doctor arrived too late to save his life, but tried to him comfortable with ether, and made an attempt to save his life. “The doctor put him in the dark of ether.” The small crowd that had gathered realized that his life was ending, and that there was nothing anyone could do. “He lay and puffed his lips out with his breath, and then--- the watcher at his pulse took fright. No one believed. They listened at his heart. Little---less---nothing! And that ended it.” Relieve that it was not them who suffered the same fate as the boy. They all went on with their work. “No more to build on there. And they, since they were not the one dead, turned to their affairs.” The young boy’s life was easily forgotten. The poem is reflecting Frost’s opinion of life and its brevity. Frost’s poem and Macbeth have a similarity between them and are often discussed together when reading this poem.
