The language and writing used in Chapter 7, is broken, conveying a sense of distress. Shelley utilized long, wordy sentences, while using many commas and semi colons to try and show the magnitude of what Victor is feeling. On page 50 it says “ A flash of lightening illuminated the object, and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed me that it was the wretch, the filthy daemon to whom I had given life”. The diction conveys Frankenstein’s hatred towards the creature when he describes him as a “deformity” and as a “wretch.” He also describes the monster as “hideous.” These words make the reader immediately holds the creature responsible for William’s death however; we really have no core for this assumption. Later, as Victor has arrived home, he learns that the Frankenstein family is blaming Justine for William’s death after finding his mothers’ locket on her. He knows without a doubt that his creature was the actual murderer of his brother. Victor shows how self-absorbed he is when he doesn’t tell his family about his creation and how it murdered William. Victor holds the power over the situation and over Justine’s innocence. Victor is more concerned about his status. This is shown on page 51 where it says, “I should have looked upon it as the ravings of insanity. “ This also brings up the theme of destiny. Is this Frankenstein’s fate? Is he pre-destined since the monster’s creation to let Justine’s innocence be ignored because Victor is too selfish? Justine’s treatment, and automatic accusations without questioning also brings up the motif of feminism or therefore lack of.
