Each college student has a set of norms that they each typically follow, which generally is to have fun, do well at school, and learn from your experiences as you mature into an adult (A norm by definition is an established standard of behavior maintained by a society). At college, a students’ goal is usually to have fun, but the most important thing is to succeed at their schooling. Excelling at your schoolwork is generally the most important thing to a student because it can potentially determine how successful you are in life. This would be an example of values, which is a collective conception of what is considered good, desirable, and proper-or bad undesirable, and improper-in a culture. When college students often communicate with one another they usually use termed slang sayings such as: “yo wassup, cool, that’s phat”, etc. This is called an argot, which is a specialized language that is used by members of a group or subculture.
