Dafur Sudan: Genocide is Alive
...in is gone from his back and nothing but flesh and bone are showing. They leave him to die alone in the village and take the car and drive off. To truly advice the president you must be able to empathize with others. You must be able to at least imagine how horrible genocide actually is. I had to imagine my children and husband being forced to watched as soldiers raped me to death. For me it is just a horrible fantasy that helps me empathize and understand what the needs of this region is. This story is told over and over again by families in Southern Sudan who are killed, beaten, and raped by the militia army, hired by the government. The people in need are not just suffering from malnutrition, and disease but the core of the survival of the refugees in Darfur are based on safety. The Militia is exterminating people as if they were locust destroying there crops. It is necessary for real peace talks to take place. Talks that involve those who are being targeted for extinction and not just talks among the northern Sudanese. The North has no intention on including the south in its government in fact there solution is to make all of them disappear. We must intervene before the north gets there wish. Domestically we must deal with major changes in vital executive positions. The President has been re-elected but all of his cabinet members are not willing to serve this nation four more years. The replacement for the Attorney General also has already been chosen and is waiting for Senate Confirmation. The Secretary of Defense, should also be replaced. My Recommendation for his replacement is Marc Ricioct, the chairman of the President’s re-election campaign. I am hoping this move will encourage Colen Powell to finish the term as Secretary of State. The Powell Doctrine is a sound doctrine for committing U.S. Forces. Using the questions from Powell Doctrine to analyze the situation in Darfur and decide if the United States should intervene. How might the situation we wish to alter, once altered by force, develop further and with what consequences? Have all other non-violent policy solutions failed? Once the costs have been determined, have the gains and risks been analyzed? Will military force achieve the objective? Decisive means and results are preferred. What is the political objective and is it clearly defined and understood? Answering these questions and following thru on the policies set fourth by the answers will lead to a successful solution to a conflict that poses. On November 18-19, the Security Council will convene in Nairobi for a special session on Sudan. This would be a perfect opportunity to stress America’s support for the efforts in to end the ethnic cleansing. The Darfur crisis began far back in 2003 and since then thousands of people have been massacred, their properties looted, while countless number of women and girls were raped; and many have fled their homes causing a huge refugee problem in neighboring Chad. The entire world particularly Africans, are appalled and dismayed over this grave humanitarian crisis described as the worst unspeakable crisis in the present times. Africans are exasperated and distraught over the inadmissible callous attitude of the Sudanese government. They have watched thousands of their fellow women brutalized, maimed and killed. Congress has already declared the Sudanese government activities as genocide and Colleen Powell has appealed to both the executive and legislative branch to assist in stopping the suffering by the victims of this internationally illegal act.
