Management

... my check, and it was only for 68 hours, not even close to what I was supposed to get. These were two major problems that I had with Coca-Cola Enterprise. I tried to handle what happened my own way and as professionally as possible, but after taking this class, the following few pages are going to tell what I should have done. Regarding the mileage problem, I did the best I could to handle the situation properly. I sat and had a meeting with my district manager explaining how I felt it was an unfair deal. He said he could not help me, so I went to the regional manager. I pleaded my case and he basically said if I do not like it, then maybe I should find another job somewhere else. At this point, I took matters into my own hands. I would pad my mileage, add a few hours, or even snag a case of pop here and there. Yes, it was immoral and unethical and I felt that the company owed me a little more than I was getting. 3 After taking this class, I was taught that I did go about this problem the right way. Going to management and talking to them about it was a good idea. Since that first manager could not help me, then going to the next step up and trying to resolve the problem with the regional manager was a good idea and was very professional. The difference between myself then and myself now is I just tried to get my money back in unethical ways and just to quit complaining about it. This class taught me to keep fighting and gave me procedures that I could follow, because eventually, I found out what the company was doing with mileage was technically illegal. What I should have done was talked to human resources and explained my problem to them. They probably would have resolved this, because the human resource department at CCE was just massive. If they would have not helped me, then I could have reported this company to some kind of bureau or agency that would have either forced Coke to fix the problem, or told me that I could have threatened them with a lawsuit. Had I taken this class a few years ago, I would have done exactly this and not let it go. I wish I would have known some of these things a little sooner. My second problem was a little more serious than the mileage problem. I was actually not getting paid for the work I accomplished. Now, this class did not have to teach me that what was happening was illegal, because I knew it was illegal. Again, I tried to handle this problem my own way and as professionally as possible. I first went and talked to my boss. He flat out told me that there was no way possible that I worked all those hours. I managed to keep my cool and repeatedly told him that he practically forced me to work those hours and I demand that I get paid for them. I told him I worked 4 all of those hours, and if I did not work those hours, then I want proof, because I know that I am entitled to the hours I am clocked in for unless I am caught not working. He would not budge. The next place to go was the regional manager. He too said it was hard to believe that I actually worked all of these hours. There were two days in question on the time clock where the time clock was down and I had to write my hours in. Somehow, the regional manager snaked his way around paying me my full amount for the hours I worked. As furious as I was, I proceeded to have cool head. I was done in arguing with management and went straight to human resources. What a great place to work. I pleaded my case to HR and they said that it would be hard to get the hours back because there is not proper documentation regarding the hours I had to write in on my time card, even though the broken time clock was Coca-Cola’s responsibility. Human Resources was also unhappy with the fact that a part-time employee was doing full-time work and not getting paid full-time salary for that week. Eventually, I was reimbursed for the hours I worked the full-time position and I got my part-time pay with over time. The check ended up to be near $1000 because, as said before, it was almost impossible to get those other hours without proper documentation. I decided to let this problem rest, but I was determined to get the $200 that the company still owed me and did some unethical things to get it. Just to make the story a little better, eventually my boss was caught trying to change some numbers on his man-hours reports and was fired for his actions. 5 Now, I certainly feel that I handled the problem accordingly. I really feel that I did just about all I could do, and this class has proven me true. Proper procedure in this class would basically say to talk to your boss. If your boss does not help, then go to their boss, and keep going until someone can help. Human Resources is one of the greatest departments in the business world today, and if I did not have a HR department at Coca-Cola, then I would have been a shorter in my paycheck. I should not have tried to get my money back in an unethical fashion, but hey, who has not cut a few corners or taken a few things at their place of work. Problem can always be resolved. I was really disappointed that Coca-Cola felt it was necess...
