uses of Photography
...ere are some things about photography that can mislead people into thinking a certain way. The picture only shows the viewer just a glimpse of what really happened. If there was a picture of a Native American with war paint on his face and nothing else around him, the viewer might think that he was a savage that killed people but was actually just an actor at one of the Wild West shows. In After the Fact, a photographer by the name of Matthew Brady was introduced. He wanted to show how bloody and gory the civil war was that he would do anything to get his point across. He would drag dead bodies into certain situations to help get what he wanted out of the picture. There were others who would take pictures a certain way to try to get their points across. During the Great Depression, the photographers would take pictures of what they thought poverty looked like. They took numerous pictures of the people to try and get the picture they wanted, the right expression from the people, and made sure the background surrounding them was appropriate. There were people, unlike others, who would spend time with the poor people to actually see how they lived and take pictures of the poor people’s everyday lifestyle instead of trying to make it look better or worse then how it really was. One man who did this very often was a man by the name of Riis. He would constantly stay in the poverty stricken areas to make sure that he had pictures to show people the reality of how these people lived.
