My Little JorneyGrand Hyatt Erawan VS The Oriental Bangkok
...d seems to be very soft and comfortable with a large white comforter with a single black line for pattern. Beside the bed is what looks to be an efficient black working desk with glass surface. The marble bathroom is spacious with both bath tub and shower. The staff also informed us that in all the room have broadband internet connectivity. Next on our tour is the recreation area. We were taken down to the 5th floor where we were first shown the fitness center and its cafe. I thought it was very nice that in front of most of the equipment there was a personal TV monitor to help entertain you while you work out. After observing the fitness center we were brought to the pool through a garden walkway. The pool area is beautiful, and resort like. Surrounded by topical trees there are plenty area to sunbath and swim. There is also a large Jacuzzi with a handsome waterfall in the background. Finally we thank the staff who was very helpful to us and make our way toward the parking lot. Along the way we look at the many restaurant and cafes the hotel has to offer and stop to have a look in the modern decorated restroom. At last we reach our car and on our way to our next destination, The Oriental. After crawling through the busy Silom traffic we finally reach The Oriental, one of Bangkok most prestigious hotel. After being greeted by the hotel staff at the entrance door I again felt being transported, but this time, it wasn’t to a different destination but back through time, time of the Grand Tour. I had watched many programs about the Grand Tour and The Oriental make me feel like I had gone back to the era. The lobby is absolutely grand and spacious. Other than the three colossal bells which is hung over the lobby, all I see is people sitting in the many chairs of the lobby causally mingling away with their friends, neighbor or staff just like the rich and powerful of before. This area is situated next to large glass walls which provide a beautiful view to their splendid garden and provide the right sun shine to the hall. As we make our way toward the front desk, we were greeted with the smile and attitude that made Thais famous throughout the world. The front office staff quickly provides us with a guide to show us to a room and told us that we are free to wander around and look at the other facilities as we please. On the elevator ride to the room, our guide, who to me seem to be new, try to have a conversation with us by asking “How do you do?”, but just left it at that. As we got off on the 14th floor and made our way to the room we were greeted in the most sincere way by all of the staff we pass. Even though the paint and pictures on the hallway seen somewhat old, it did not bother me at all, on the other hand, it felt right and make me feel the history of the place. The room layout is very similar with the Grand Hyatt, it too has a large bathroom and a working desk beside the bed, but the feel is completely different. The Oriental’s room truly felt cozy and warm, whether it was the color or its furniture I couldn’t tell but there is something in the room that make you feel like home. Another thing about the room which I can not forget to mention is it majestic view. Looking through the window you could see a panoramic view of the greatest river in Thailand, one could only wonder the beauty of this image 40 years ago, when the city isn’t plaque with pollution and clustering of office building. After a gracious farewell from the front desk staff we took a little stroll around the property. On our walk we walk pass an elegant looking restaurant beside the river, the splendid garden and a very lovely swimming pool where many guest are enjoying the sun and either are reading or having a little swim. Even though the walk was very nice the thing that impresses me the most was not its facilities, but how every staff that we encounter is ready to greet us with a friendly smile and make us feel welcome there. After looking around for a while we went to the car and left the place where time stand still and many refer to it as their second home. Having visited both the Grand Hyatt Erawan and The Oriental I have found out that both hotels are very similar yet very different. Both hotels are very beautiful and grand. Once you walk inside you felt that you are not walking into some ordinary place but a place that is all about luxury and prestige. Both of these hotels have the ability to make you forget about all the confusion and congestion of the big city environment outside its door and feel warm and relax in its atmosphere. For me once I step inside the Grand Hyatt I felt as if I was in a forest lagoon while The Oriental makes me feel warm and at ease. The room layout is also very similar between the two hotels. Both have large fluffy bed, spacious bathroom and a working desk. But I have to comment about the bathroom at The Oriental. If you were sleeping on the bed next to the bathroom I am sure you can see the person using the toilet, by looking through the wooden door’s ventilation gap. For me something are just not attractive to be seen plus I w...
