...f the story of Gilgamesh, Enkidu is basically an animal, he lives with other animals. Benefitting from them as they benefit from him. Gilgamesh has a dream that relates to Enkidu, telling him that he needs to join up with him. He then sends a harlot to turn Enkidu around from an animal, to a man. She is successful, but Enkidu is not the same person after the transformation. Before, it seemed like he was a, somewhat, carefree individual, “ The small wild creatures of the plains were glad of the water, and Enkidu with them, who ate grass with the gazelle and was born in the hills; and she saw him, the savage man, come from far-off in the hills.”[Gilgamesh 64] But his manhood proved to be a turn for the worst, “ I am weak, my arms have lost their strength, the cry of sorrow sticks in my throat, I am oppressed by idleness.”[Gilgamesh 70] Mans one major flaw in all history was civilization. In the beginning of time, humans didn’t quarrel over social status. There was no set system of money, therefore, it was every man for himself. There were no jobs, so people were not worried about whether they would get their big raise, or their enormous bonus. People lived life worrying, at most, about the movement of the wild herds.
