Descisions

...ife. After considering all options I finally decided to take the advice from my family, and major in business. Their advice did make a lot of sense, because ten years down the road from now if I was unhappy about the road I chose, there would always be that degree in business to fall back on. So I figured the best option for me would be to go through business school, and in some way try to gear my classes towards the field of law. Idealy I would be able to take my knowledge from what I learn in Business school and carry it into Law School. Something like corporate Law or even sports agency, it would be nice to have some what of a background in business in some sense or another. After talking to my brother and some friends who were all in Business School, or about to enter in to it, I found that I would most defiantly have my work cut out for me. They told me to forget about all the things I had heard in college, because when it comes down to it , you really do have to bust your ass to stay ahead of the game. I started observing my brother to see just what it took to do the work needed to pass the classes. It was a shock to see just how much went in to his efforts to be a successful student. When orientation rolled around a few months ago I didn’t really know what to expect. We had a block of time that was dedicated to getting to know more about your intended major. The dean of the college of Business came to talk to all perspective students to tell us bout the college. I thought to myself what better way to learn about the College of Business but from the head honcho herself. She wasted no time telling us what would be expected from her students. Most of us were in shock after hearing some of the things she was saying. At one point she practically told us that a good majority of us won’t even make it into the College of Business. There were some students that actually got up and left within the first five minutes of hearing her negative but truthful words. I was contemplating whether or not I should stick it out, but in the end I decided to stick with it. One of the positive things that was told to us during orientation by the dean was the fact the school of business was implementing the mapping system. This system laid out the classes and the schedule we should be following up until it’s time to actually get into our major. This structuring will help greatly when it comes to deciding what classes I should take, and when I should take them. Looking at the prerequisites, I was, and still am nervous about whether or not I can handle that load. Compared to the requirements for some of the other majors, business seems to be one of the toughest and most rigorous. There are a few that make me more nervous than others like; Micro and Macro. Economics, Intoduction to Financial Accounting, and most of all Calculus. I’m glad however that I have a brother that has already been through all the prerequisites, so if I do run into trouble he will be able to help me out. Focus and hard work is what it will take to make it into the college of business. In order to get into the college I will need to maintain a minimum of a 2.9 grade point average and get no lower than a “C”- in any of the classes. I was always able to maintain those requirements in high school, so I’m hoping I will be able to do the same when it really matters. In order to get some of the facts needed for this paper I had to interview someone in the collge of business. I lucked out because I was able to interview the Dean of admissions to the College of Business. I told her my situation, and she was more than happy to answer the questions I had to ask her. I knew I had to relate the topic of writing into my paper in one way or another, so I asked her, what is the writing format for business majors. She replied “ that there is no set format, it all depends on the topic, and also each department may have there own format”. I’m still undecided about just what field of business I will enter, but I’m leaning towards finance. I have been interested in the stock market for a while now, so I think I might want to pursue that if all else fails. As I said before you need a 2.9 grade point average to be accepted into the college of business, and this is where many students find they don’t have what it takes to make it in. However she did tel...
