Within this solar sanctuary the children will emulate the feel of a clear night sky, something that is not readily available to any teacher due to time restraints, and use the displayed constellations to learn more on the heavenly bodies. Activities with the solar figures can be related to folklore like in the Chippewa Tribes thus yielding cultural knowledge. The science concepts addressed in this article include constellations and the Earth as part of the solar system. In this activity the students must observe and record data of the constellations, and create models independently to represent these constellations. Standard 4- Science, Physical Setting, Key Idea 1: The Earth and celestial phenomenon can be described by principles of relative motion and perspective, is the standard with which this activity is based around. My Ideas: I had experienced a traveling planetarium when I was in elementary school and it was a terrific experience that I would love to pass along to my students. It was this experience that sparked an interest in the celestial beings, which of course was the objective of the lesson, and thus got me interested in my coursework.
