Something Good to Read

... the angle, the wording that will take the reader with him.” This was written by Paul Roberts in an essay he wrote called How To Say Nothing in 500 Words. I agree with him. In my opinion, that is what makes a good writer. A good writer finds the way to keep the reader interested in the main idea. A writer should always write about something they are interested in, to express their own individuality. If the main idea is not important to the writer, then the writer will not care about the topic and prevent them from writing something good. Once the writer cares for the topic, it allows them to express their individuality. The writer’s individuality is what makes the reader interested; because, it creates a unique feeling for the reader. It gives the reader a “voice” to the listen while they are reading. This “voice” is created by the writer’s choice of words, the details they include, different beginning and ending strategies, and other factors which express the writer’s personality. The writer’s individuality also makes it interesting for the reader; because, it allows the writer to express their original thoughts, personal feelings, and the way they see things and interpret them. In addition, it will also make the reader feel that the author is writing sincerely about the topic, giving them credibility. Interesting detail allows the reader to put himself in the writing and actually see pictures instead of just words. Some words are “colorful”, they make the reader create a picture or feel an emotion. They do this by being dressy instead of plain, specific instead of general, and loud instead of soft. (“Paul Roberts” 76) I see writing as a movie; there is an introduction, which sets the stage for what is coming up, then it has the scenes that develop the main idea, and then there is the ending that wraps everything up. But what makes a good movie is the way each scene is arranged. Each scene keeps me interested, with surprises and twists, and they all flow together. Good writing should be the same way. Each part should flow with one another and keep the reader interested all the way to the end. Just like in a movie, writers can make their writing interesting by surprising the reader with a unique idea. A unique idea will grasp the readers’ attention, by taking them to a different point of view. If the writer follows the norm, the reader makes a generalization of the writer’s ideas and instead of keeping them interested will make them bored. But, if the writer comes up with a unique idea, it makes the reader more interested in the writing, since it comes off as unique. Another important factor in good writing is organization. Good writing is arranged in a logical order. The different parts (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) that make up writing are all arranged so that they flow together. This is very important; because, when one part flows into another, the reader does not have to struggle t...
