Antigone

...one who attempts to give him his rights would be punished with death. Throughout the play, Antigone is portrayed as being deeply religious, spunky and strong willed. These are characteristics that people pray for everyday. Antigone’s deeds expanded the possibility of human action, as she set her conscience and her love for her dead brother above and against the power and authority of the State. Antigone is a very religious person. She is someone that people today could learn from. Though today’s beliefs are much different from the beliefs back then, she is willing to give up her life for her religion. Antigone argues that Zeus, the Chief God of the Greeks ruled over her king and he would never deny someone proper rights, be him a traitor or not. And she refuses to disobey the gods for a mere mortal king and risk the consequences. She, unlike so many, is not afraid of dying because she knows she has the gods on her side and they have greater things in store for her. I really admire this character and sometimes wish that I could be more like Antigone when it comes to my beliefs, strong enough to make a bold statement. Spunky is another work that I would use to describe AntigoneAntigone is depicted as being spunky or spirited. She stood by her father after he was cast out of the city of Thebes. She gave her brother a proper burial after the king forbade it. She was such a courageous person, always willing to face danger. In the play, the guard tells King Creon that someone has given Polynices his rights, but they were unaware of the culprit. He explains that the other guards are scared for their lives to pass the news to the King, unsure of the blame and interrogation. The King orders the guards to find out who buried the traitor, and in the meantime, dust the corpse off and strip off his clothes for the wolves to smell. Though they may have thought it to be wrong, they did as they were ordered. When Antigone learns of this, she wails as she runs to the body in broad daylight and buries Polynices again.
