Yet the only reason they practiced this was to align their mosques with Mecah. Clearly here a culture is using science only to benefit and keep intact strong religious values. Eastern religions also took an interest in the stronomical patterns in developing calendars, in which holy times such as ramadon and other eastern traditions, would be known when the holiday was to be celebrated. On the other hand in the west, astronomy was being embraced for navigation, which benefited trade and there economy. Clearly the vast differences between western and eastern values can be seen.
