...gan in 1961 and was completed in 1965. Rangers one and two were launched in 1961 and were considered test missions. Ranger three, four and five were launched during 1962 and they failed. Rangers six, seven, eight, and nine were launched in the years 1964 and 1965. Ranger six failed while seven, eight, and nine were successful missions. 4- What experiments were conducted? ~Photos were taken of the Lunar Surface and relayed back to earth. Other data was also obtained. All of the rangers were equipped with six “television” cameras that were used to obtain groups of photos and place them in order. The photos improved as the missions went on. Ranger nine’s pictures were 1,000 times better than any earth- based photos of the moon. 5- What was accomplished? What did we learn? ~ after five years and six failed missions, the scientists had gathered lots of information and thousands of pictures. After the three final missions the ranger had sent back over 17,000 images and had obtained lots of other data. The last Ranger, Ranger nine had sent back more than 5,800 images! We learned that we could someday safely land on the moon’s surface to gather even more interesting facts about it. The cost of this project was approximately 170 million dollars. 6- What other interesting facts did you learn? ~ Learned many interesting facts about the ranger missions, my favorite was ...
