... Lexington offers to all its visitors a generous amount of southern hospitality. Come on into town and shop where the locals do. Uptown Lexington is known for it’s antique stores, the largest True Value Hardware store in the entire state, bridal, and dress fabric shops, toy store, famous restaurants and it’s old-fashioned grocery store which is known for it’s homemade pimento cheese and chicken salad. Not only can one spend the entire day shopping throughout town, but can also take a walking tour of the old buildings. Local residents are always more than happy to lend a helping hand to newcomers and those who are just visiting. Along with a town full of friendly people, Lexington also offers a large variety of historical attractions. Many people come into the town to simply walk around and tour all the old buildings that are still being used to this day. Lexington also draws another breed of history seekers. Fans of Daniel Boone can venture to Lexington to get a glimpse of “Boone’s Cave Park”. The original cave is a granite formation along the Yadkin River, just a few miles southwest of Lexington. Although little is known about Daniel Boone, a local historian recorded that he left his family at a Quaker settlement in the Shenadoah Valley in 1751, and then ventured to the Yadkin Valley to explore and hunt. He then lived in a cave above the river. He spent 5 to 6 months building a 2-room log house with an attic and a stone basement. Now there is an exact replica of this house is standing on the same spot that the original. This replica is located on a 110-acre park that offers a hiking trail, river fishing, and picnicking areas.
