treating mental illness
...eak minded, as though delusions or depression are just symptoms that one should be able to simply walk off or that everyone can just get a grip on it. What some folks fail to realize is many people suffer from mental illness due to a biological dysfunction. Because the effects of mental illness are not evident externally as say a bruise from a punch or yellow eyes and face due to jaundice it is not acknowledged as being just as damaging. It’s sad really, because most people know someone, have been in contact with someone, or are someone with mental illness. The only way I can think that could possibly reduce how mental illness is viewed and treated is to imagine what their own lives might be like if they were affected by it or someone close to them like their mother or child. I believe that is the solution to end all discrimination. Media is actually doing its part in reducing the stigmatization of treatment of mental illness whether they mean to or not.
