the super bowl
...he second half, the end of the game ceremony/post game interviews, and the commercials. The pre game show is a perfect example of how the America loves entertainment. Before the game there is always famous band playing a famous song with hundreds of fans cheering and screaming next to the stage. A perfect example of this was at Super Bowl XXXVIII. The pre game show for Super Bowl XXXVIII included Aerosmith, Toby Keith, and Willie Nelson. All of these artists are world famous and well know. The pre game show ends by a flyby of fighter jets or bombers. The flyby instill a sense of power and pride because it shows America’s military might (this just oozes virtus). The most famous example of the flyby was the flyby of the stealth bomber. This fact reinforces the fact that the Super Bowl is not just about the game and is about entertainment not only through the sport but also by musical performances. The national anthem is another event that entertains the viewers and fans in attendance. The national anthem happens before every major sporting event in America but the national anthem at the Super Bowl is different. At the Super Bowl, the person or persons who sing the national anthem has always been an A-list performer. Their voice is always smooth and in a way angelic. The most famous performance has to be Whitney Houston’s performance at Super Bowl XXV. This is more of a relaxed and respectful form of entertainment. This portion of the Super Bowl evokes a sense of national pride while entertaining the viewers as well. Even the coin toss has turned into an entertaining factor of the Super Bowl. Each year a famous player, coach, or league official will perform the coin toss. An example of this was Marcus Allen, Ottis Anderson, Tom Flores, and Bill Parcells at Super Bowl XXXV. By having a famous individual or a group of famous individuals perform the coin toss, it furthers the entertainment value of the Super Bowl. The main entertainment of this portion of the event is the game. When the ball is kicked of the crowd goes crazy. The fans for each team yell and cheer for the team they want to win. Even people who are there for the atmosphere pick a team to cheer for and participate in the cheering. During timeouts people shoot t-shirts, hotdogs, and many other prizes out of air cannons into the crowd. The crowd goes crazy cheering as loud as they can so the cannon operators will shoot a prize their way. Even if the prize gets shot in their direction, the members of the crowd in that area must fight over the prize. This is entertainment to the nth degree. Between the game and the prizes the entertainment never stops. Next comes the halftime show. This show is much like the pre game show in that there is a musical performance. The half time show has 3 or more artists from all types of music. The best example of the halftime show was the performance by Janet Jackson, P. Diddy, Nelly, and Kid Rock. This is entertainment at its finest. The variety of music keeps everyone entertained. The halftime show has become as important as the actual football game because America loves to be entertained that much. When the second half comes the fans are still screaming and cheering. The cheerleaders help keep the fans who get sick of football entertained by looking attractive and dancing. They are there for one purpose and that is to entertain the fans (and to let Terrell Owens barrow their pom-poms). When the teams score the players celebrate. The celebrations keep the fans entertain whether it is by signing a football, doing the Lambeau leap, or by doing a little dance. Everything is for entertainment. When the game ends it is just the start of more entertainment. When the clock hits zero the players drench the coach with Gatorade and rush the field jumping up and down. The fans whose team won the game cheer louder and with more effort than they have all game. Some fans try rushing the field to get close to their favorite player and also for a little bi...
