The violation of the geneva convention
...l group of prisoners pile on each other naked like building blocks while he shot at them and played with them.He also stuck sticks in the anuses of these men as a game. Reports shown to the Washington Post Sept.25,2004 talked about how men were piled upon each other like a deck of cards naked and blindfolded while soldiers struck them with sticks and tried to see which one would fall off first and then whoever fell off first was punished by being severely pistol whipped and even sometimes tied to a tree and shot several times then left on the tree to bleed to die.According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution Sept 25, 2004 Women were violently taken out of their homes and away from their kids beaten to an unrecognizable state and then raped so brutually by more than one soldier at a time. Some of these women will never be able to have anymore children or even their first child because of the events that took place. As the abuse and torture continues there is no one being punished and there are no means of creating methods to stop this problem. There are no soldiers being taken to the tribunal for what they are doing to these people. For some of these victims the only crime they are guilty of is living. According to the Washington Post September 25, 2004 despite three dozen cases over the past 13 months of British military misconduct towards Iraqi men women and children the only soldier to be convicted of any crime was one who killed a dog and we may be a nation of animal lovers but this seems an odd sense of priorities. This shows that we respect animal rights more than human rights. Reports to carry out this torture came from high military officials. But it wasn’t only soldiers who did this but it was also contractors hired by the United States Federal Government. The United States and Great Britain justify why they are punishing these people by stating that due to the fact that George W. Bush is the President of the United States and Tony Blair is the prime minister of England they have the right to punish these people by any means necessary a Machiavellian tactic which caused the dehumanization of these people and conflicts with the Geneva convention which both countries agreed to over 45 years ago. In looking at the problem we have to examine the effects the problem is having on our international relations as a country as a whole and then as individual citizens.. According to the Irish Times Nov. 4, 2004 Bush’s recent 2004 election win is bad for the US and the world. Irish people are no longer supporting Bush and his endeavors and are refusing to respect and economic endeavors the US is trying to explore with them. According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel June 30,2004 Asia and Europe are rallying against the US and feel that a change needs to occur .Our International Respect is diminishing fast and we need to do something about it. The United States and Great Britain are stressing their International Relationships and are only making it worst with the torture in Baghdad at the Abu Ghraib prison. On Bush’s trip to Europe he faced the pope a critic of war .The Pope urged Bush to make some major changes in Iraq or else Europe would make some major changes. Meaning Europe would refuse to do business with the US. The abuses at Abu Ghraib stand as a stain on the honor of the American military. The scandal has damaged our international efforts, national security, and undermined our efforts to bring peace to Iraq and win the war against radical terrorism- a war that is as much a fight for the political and moral high ground as it is a shooting war that pits American soldiers against Islamist ones. Not only did America suffer a defeat when those photos were published but Americans suffered a defeat as well. It is now going to harder than ever to regain our international respect back after the events that have come to light. Even American travelers are making the situation worst by disrespecting international soil through littering and discrimination. These disrespectful acts need to come to a halt. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution Americans are seen as ignorant when they travel abroad instead of trying to understand the language of that country they try to impose English upon people. According to the San Diego Tribune August 25, 2004 Americans are seen as rude visitors on foreign soil almost everywhere. When in Italy you hear Americans deliberately saying Ciao when it is known to be an offensive statement to those from Italy. Its actions like these that show us how Americans are viewed as disrespectful. When the Geneva Convention is not being upheld and is deliberately being undermined then others look at each and every one of us as disrespectful and the natives of these countries grow a sense of hatred for Americans. Americans are using their ways to earn an extra dollar through selling the photos which contributes to the disrespect. Copies of the photos are now sold in souks from Marrakech to Jakarta, vivid illustrations of the worst suspicions of the Arab world: that Americans are corrupt and power mad, eager to humiliate Muslims and mock their values. The acts they document ha...
