How One Brain Works

...ion travels as electrical impulses or signals from neuron or nerve cell to neuron. An impulse moves down the axon of a neuron to the nerve ending, called dendrites. Dendrites then store chemicals called neurotransmitters that absorb the signals and carry them across the synapse, or gap to other neurons. This all makes up the largest player on the brains team, the cerebrum. The cerebrum makes up 85% of the brains weight. This is the thinking part of the brain. It lets one solve math problems, feed one’s fish, and remember one’s way to school. It is the cerebrum that makes human beings smarter than animals, because it is the part that lets one reason. It is made up of two halves, which is located at the top half of the head. One part of the cerebrum is the motor area. It runs across the center of the cerebrum from ear to ear. The motor area controls one’s voluntary muscles. Next up is the cerebellum, which is the back part of the brain, located just below the cerebrum. It is a lot smaller than the cerebrum. It is only an eighth of an inch in size. It controls one’s balance, movement, and coordination. It is because of one’s cerebellum, that one can stand upright, keep one’s balance, and move around. Another brain part that is small but plays a big part is the brain stem. It is beneath the cerebrum and I front of the cerebellum. It connects the rest of the brain to the spinal cord, which runs down one’s neck and back. The brain stem controls all the functions that are necessary for one’s body t...
