...f marrying a lawyer terrifies me. What if she ever finds out about my past? Will she accept me for who I am? Will she leave me? All these thoughts kept me up all night. At the fancy restaurant downtown, Meredyth’s parents joined us for dinner, to discuss our plans for the future. The Jones’ are very supportive of our decisions. "As long as you treat my daughter right and keep her happy, there is no reason for me to be against your marriage", says Mr. Jones. I nod my head, as I would never hurt Meredyth in any way. "We know everything about you, your past, and your plans for the future; there is nothing we do not like about you. We know you will treat my only daughter with a lot of respect, and give her a wonderful marriage and family. If we ever find out anything unpleasant about you, or the way you treat Meredyth, do expect us to force you to divorce her." That final sentence got me all worried and thinking, again. We plan for a marriage in the summer, a big wedding with all of Meredyth’s friends from back home, all of her family, and the few friends I have made. I have never seen Meredyth so happy, as she plans the details of her wedding. "I know everything will turn out great," she assures me. "Our wedding will be huge; it will be the most memorable moment of my life, just as every wedding should be." The happier she is for our future, the more worried I get. Meredyth will be absolutely devastated if she ever finds out about my past. Our marriage would be over, and my life would not be able to continue without her. As the wedding day comes near, we are too busy planning the last minute details of the wedding to think or even worry about anything. For our honeymoon, I have planned a trip to Mexico. My beautiful fiancé has got me as excited as she is for our wedding. All of our loved ones showed up for the wedding, the day turned out just as great as we imagined. The week in Mexico was absolutely joyful. We had always loved the sun, and this honeymoon was too good to be true. When we thought nothing could make our lives happier, Meredyth started having pains and the symptoms of pregnancy. As I wait for her in the waiting room, I was too anxious for the great news, as we were so sure she was pregnant! Meredyth walks to me with a delighted smile on her face, and the Doctor gives me the grand news I had been waiting for; Meredyth was six weeks pregnant! We begin fixing up the empty room, decorating it as the nursery for our child. I was overjoyed, my life was so great. Meredyth gives birth to a healthy, beautiful baby boy we named James Jenkins. Our family was now finally complete. With Meredyth’s high pay, and my average pay, we were able to support our son, and have a blissful life. I still wish I could have a job with a higher pay, but I love my job, and I do not want to give it up. Meredyth took a year off work for maternity leave. James is very healthy at a year old. There is a case being offered for Meredyth, one of the top lawyers in Edmonton, and she has decided to take it. Over dinner, Meredyth tells me what she knows so far about the case. “This case involves a connection with an old rape and murder case.” I got nervous as she told me. The next night, as we are sitting on the couch, relaxing, Meredyth gives me a bit of the update on the case. “We want to interview a couple of rapists from cases before. The man in a case twenty eight years ago suddenly has disappeared, and there is no trace of him. Tomorrow, we will be looking up his mug shots and information. With cases like these, we always like to interview rapists from past similar cases.” That night, I couldn’t sleep at all. What if I was the man she was talking about, I thought uneasily. At dinner, Meredyth was acting very strange, and when I asked her how work was, she kept changing the subject. This made me think of what would happen if she found out something about the past that haunted me. As much as I wished it would go away, I realized it never would. I knew if I stayed around Meredyth for any longer, I would go crazy. I’d do something I’d regret that would reveal the truth. “I’m going to take a shower, and then I’ll be in bed,” I said. After my shower, I went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water before going to bed. While I was filling my glass, I heard Meredyth on the phone. As I walked to the living room, I heard Meredyth talking about her case. I suddenly stopped and put my ear to the door and listened. “Ever since I told Patrick about the case and the missing man from twenty eight years ago, he has been acting very nervous and strange. Today, we looked up the information we have of the man, and you know what makes it...
