The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is showing that many Americans are getting tired of traditional news broadcasts. A. Referred to as 'fearless social satire' B. The shows setup 1. The show starts out with stories about the latest news, given it hasn't happened between the time of the shoot and the time they air. 2. It usually goes to a correspondent after that "on location" (actually about five feet from where Jon is hosting in front of a green screen) of where something news worthy is going on. 3. Then a segment, varying from an off-the-wall interview to spinning the wheel of religions to talk about it's latest news. 4. Before the close of every show Jon has a guest. a. Ranging from actors to authors to ex-presidents. b. Has many politically significant guests on, especially this election year. c. Bob Dole, Bill Clinton, Ralph Nadar, John McKain and John Kerry have all appeared on The Daily Show d. John Edwards even announced his candidacy for president on The Daily Show to Jon's response "Uh, you know your probably going to have to say that again right, we are fake news show you know." 5. The show usually ends with a last thought by Jon followed by the moment of zen, a short clip that’s actually been shown on T.V. somewhere that’s absolutely stupid. C. Fake news with intelligent analysis 1. "The show won a Peabody Award for its 2000 campaign reporting, in large part because beneath the jokes, The Daily Show really does approach something like intelligent analysis." 2. The show takes what’s going on in the media and points out that a lot of the time, we're being fed some twisted information as if we are all completely ignorant. 3. Jon makes his audience feel a little better knowing that theirs someone else that’s noticing all the misinformation, bias, and downright corruption present in our media today. D. The point is people are watching the Daily Show for their news. 1. The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press studies showed that just as many people in the under-30 crowd cited they got their presidential campaign news from the Daily Show or Saturday Night Live than all three of the networks news programs combined. 2.
