Abortion
...en reproductive freedom; the fundamental right of every individual to decide freely and responsibly when and whether to have a child. Abortion can also be useful in the issue of stem-cell research. Aborted embryos that would normally be disposed of can be used for their human stem cells which can bring new treatments and possible cures for many debilitating diseases and injuries, including Parkinson's disease, diabetes, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, burns and spinal cord injuries. The main argument for pro-abortion is that it is a basic right for a woman to decide what happens to her body. Some people agree with abortion in certain circumstances. They would agree that in cases of rape and incest, abortion should be granted. They also believe that abortion can be taken too far in some cases and people will begin aborting babies if they discover during the pregnancy a birth defect. The fear of many other anti-abortionists is that some people may abuse the system and begin using abortion as a form of birth control. This will cause people to be careless about using contraception and irresponsible. They believe that in cases where it was not the woman’s fault she became pregnant abortion should be allowed. This view-point is more of a compromise between a pro-abortionist, and an anti-abortionist. Anti-abortionists believe that as soon as the woman’s egg becomes fertilized, a human life is created. They believe that the Canadian Charter of Rights states that we will give equal protection under the law, to all living humans from the time their biologic life begins at conception until natural death. Behaviourally speaking, there is no difference between a newborn infant and a 32 week old fetus. Researchers have discovered that just weeks after contraception, the embryo’s brain has already began to develop. By five weeks after contraception, the cerebral cortex has already started to grow; the part of the brain which allows humans to think, talk, eat, listen, and react.
