Unfair School Truancy

Physical disabilities can be an obstacle that makes them feel uncomfortable from being in school, even though they are in a state where it is okay to go to school due to their condition; therefore, the school does not understand their point of view. Also, recent injuries can affect a child from going to school, it can either be the parents not able to take you to school, or even the student. Illnesses and disabilities can come unexpected at any time. A student or the family can have many problems that can be confidential; with this can affect the student, family, and their community. Students who have problems of their own start to fall behind in school and do not have the energy to attend school, and this is not an acceptable excuse for school. Divorce, is a hard situation that the kids get put on. It affects their self-esteem and increases th likelihood that at-risk students will drop out of school. These problems and many others like financial problems, sudden deaths can be very depressing and challenging to a child's life, at any age. This causes them to not concentrate in school. Another problem that many students go through is moving to a new school. This can be really hard for them because they don not know anybody they can relate to, and they feel as if they do not have any friends, and the student gets discouraged of school. Truancy affects both the individuals and society. School phobia describes children who have a patters of avoiding or refusing to attend school. Some children can fear school-related activities; like riding on the school bus, because they do not know who to sit with. Reading aloud in class is something many students dislike doing; they get red and embarrassed and they would rather not show up to class. Changing clothes for a physical education class can be taunting for them, because they are ashamed of their bodies, and they rather not go to school so that they won't go through this. Many kids have bullies that tease them, and get made fun of. This is really serious because they get hurt emotionally with this. (School phobia, pp. 208) "It is a fact that many kids that go through all of this do not tell anybody even their parents;" because they are embarrassed and scared and feel like outcasts in school and at home. Arresting a student who has been truant, arresting or fining the parents of the student is not an adequate punishment because the young students are not aware of all the actions they make at that age. They are put in a position where they miss days of school because of where you fit socially in school, and how your problems with family, friends affect your decisions and directions you are heading.
