...e play young men wait in the squares at the two shrines of Pallas, and where Apollo speaks in the glowing embers. Also, Apollo is a god of wisdom, which is symbolizing Laios, Oedipus’s father. Laios in the play believes that he has wisdom, and can fool the gods. After Tiresias tells Laios about his future son, Laios decides to put his son, Oedipus up for adoption, to trick the gods. Laios believes he has wisdom and believes that he is tricking the gods. “True: it is not from me your fate will come. That lies within Apollo’s competence, as it is his concern”(Line 57). In this quote Tiresias is talking to Oedipus about the past and the future. Also, in the beginning of the play Apollo orders them to kill the killer of the former king.
