What role did the propaganda of the nazis play during the holocaust?
...figures such as the Communists or Jews. From 1933 onwards, when the NSDAP came to power until the Second World War ended, being the leading party, were able to spread their ideology almost everywhere. It is still questioned today how such a large population underlined to a totalitarian regime. One must consider what was going on in the world during this time. The poverty and the unemployment in Germany at this time was extremely high due the economic world crisis of 1929. Inflation was extremely high as well which caused political instability. This was the ideal situation for the NSDAP to take over by making Adolf Hitler their leader, a leader who promised better life quality. 1940 was about the time when both propaganda films “Jud Süss” and “Der ewige Jude” came into the German cinemas. These are two of the most famous examples of the propaganda of the Nazis against Jews. Both of these films were influenced into every last detail by Hitler and Goebbels, which is what made them so dangerous and effective for the Nazi’s purpose. The nazis made use of propaganda techniques such as inflicting the impression onto the people as being highly organised, this was noticeable by their actions and by paintings or photography showing images of huge crowds standing in a very organised fashion, everyone on his spot, all doing the same. Such images not only made a good impression of the nazis but also created a feeling of unity, and we people often feel comfortable in this situation. The feeling of not being alone, instead fighting for the same purpose along with many people. Especially a group of people such as the Germans who had just had a destructing depression due to the loss of the First World War and many other factors such as inflation. The first source I will evaluate is the internet website www.shoa.de, Shoa is the Hebrew name of the Holocaust. From this one can conclude that this internet site was probably created by people of Jewish origin, one could suggest that this would make this a biased website. I would not agree with this because this is a site which has tremendous amounts of information on almost anything to do with the holocaust. The information is not for examples written by individuals but actually secondary sources such as texts from school books which were used to teach the children in the third Reich or photos of propaganda films such as “Der Ewige Jude” or “Jud Süss” The second source I will evaluate is the internet website www.holocaust-history.org, this in comparison to my first source is an English website. This site is partially like the other because it has many secondary sources like the ones of the first website. In comparison to the first however its also offers many essays which would be primary sources. What could make this site a less biased source is the fact that they also have information about the holocaust denial. One could conclude from this that the people who created this website are trying to offer information about the holocaust in all its aspects not only the ones they agree with. Its is very important to investigate the propaganda of the Nazis because it is something that can be done again very easily. To avoid this we must understand what they did to manipulate the people and how they did it so we do not make the same mistake as they did. People think that this is the past and will not happen again, but propaganda is everywhere. Many people do not believe some films or other sources of media to be propaganda beca...
