The class is designed to teach kids at a young age the importance of diet and exercise, but the class can only do so much. The majority of kid’s healthy habits need to be taught and emphasized not by the school, but by the kid’s parents. Proper exercise is not just a way to prevent obesity, but it prevents other diseases as well. :A number of diseases are directly associated with physical inactivity…sedentary living habits account for a third of the deaths from coronary heart disease, colon cancer, and diabetes (Welk, 2000, p.3).” Daily physical activity can reduce the risk of heart disease by improving blood circulation throughout the body, keep weight under control, improve blood cholesterol levels, prevent and reduce high blood pressure, prevent bone loss, boost your energy level, release tension, improve your overall self image, and much more. Being a college student can be tough. Not only trying to keep up with homework and assignments, but also trying to find time in between your busy schedule to do something active. Most college students go through the stresses of having a lot of work to do and so little time to do it. This can really affect you mentally. However, making enough time each day to do something physical like walking, jogging, or playing a sport will strengthen you mentally and reduce some of that stress. “If you want to be fit and reap dozens of health and performance benefits, you need to exercise an average of twenty-five to thirty-five minutes most days of the week Cooper, 1989, p. 95).” Proper exercise every day does so much more than just prevent diseases.
