From this line we can already tell he has a certain level of uptightness. As we progress, he gives more and more reeasons as to why he is the perfect example of il dottore. For example, Varinka tells him that a woman she knows gave her a fruit basket because she found out that Varinka was marring him. She also proceeded to tell her that he was the most honorable man in the village. His response to this was “I don’t care for apricots. They give me hives.” Obviously he does not like to show ay level of excitement or any emotion for that matter. His fiancee does start to get through to him though. There is a part were she asks him to dance with her. After much arguing, he finally agree to dance with her, but it is clear that he is not cracking.
