tv agression and violence
...courage it. For example in movies where there are bad guys racing down the street, hitting cars and shooting behind them at the cops chasing them,we are never shown what happens to the families that may have been involved in a car accident as a result of the “bad guys” speeding down the street. Or the innocent pedestrians walking down the street that may have been hit with a random bullet. B) How does the media desensitize us to violence? Everyday we are bumbarded with violence from television shows, movies, radio as well as the news. After a while this habitual viewing of violence begins to become normal to us. We become so used to all of the violence all around supported by the media that it no longer affects us. For example, people become so used to all the killings an/or murders on the movies they watch everyday that when they turn on their T.V.’s at night to watch the one and someone is shot outside the liquor store it no longer strikes them as wrong and immoral or be in disbelief that someone would do such a thing. In fact they will probably not think twice about it and they assume it to be normal because they see it so often. It doesn’t occur to them any longer that it is wrong. They just accpet it and move on. Thus, the media desensitizes us to violence. C) How does the media help us to tolerate violence? The media shows us violence everyday, over and over again . By witnessing this violence so often through the media, when it comes to everyday life in the real world, people begin to put up with more violence. Foe example, because we see it in the movies and T.V., when it happens in real life people do not find it so surprising and tend to tolerate more then they should. If violence did not exist in the media, people would be utterly apauled by even the smallest act of violence because they know that it is wrong. But because we see it in the movies we start to think that some of that behaviour must be some what acceptable when really it should not be. D) How does the media stunt our empathy for our fellow human beings? In Violent T.V. or movies the characters usually have no consequence for their violent behavior. The characters in movies also seem to survive unrealistic ordeals that in real life people would not survive. The media also stunts our empathy by poking fun at people with problems that really do exist. Because we see it on TV we show less empathy to those who may have to endure that problem in real life and we overlook that. 3. In my opinion graphic violence in the media does cause violence. When little kids are exposed to violence they are to yo...
