Persuasion Speech on How Live theatre is better than Television of Today.

...s. So, why do people need to be a size 0 and have well planned look before they can be seen in the public’s eye? Talk about Marilyn Monroe and The Olsen girls. Name some good shows (The Brady Bunch or I Love Lucy), name some bad shows (MTV‘s The Real World or any dating show)- where sex is everywhere, and the more you have, the more you flaunt. This now brings me to my next point… b. Children and how quickly they are forced to grow up. According to www.earlychildhoodbehavioralhealth.com, by the end of elementary school, the average child will have seen 8,000 murders and over 100,000 violent acts. This is an outstanding amount, for such a child of age as elementary school. Why do we allow our children to see this, when we ourselves don’t even see that much. Another fact on www.earlychildhoodbehavioralhealth.com states that children’s cartoons and action shows average more than 20 acts of violence per hour compared with 5 acts per hour during an adult prime time slot. Parents of children work a lot more than they have in the past, so this leaves children with the television to occupy them. Tv, in turn teaches our children about sex and violence, rather than their parents, and forces them to accept why these things happen. If and/or when a child is neglected by his parents, they tend to act out what they have learned to get attention. And we as drooling spectators have the ignorance to question why we see so many kids on these talk shows, wondering who their baby’s fathers are or why they are going to boot camp, because they make their parents so crazy that they send them away. C. Doesn’t anyone enjoy live theatre anymore? Our society is so busy glued to a television screen to have any time or strength to go see a production. Here at WWU, most of the student body is on LEAD, therefore they only go to our shows for the 2 points awarded at the end. Do they really pay attention to the show? The majority, probably not. Some people are more in tuned with their cell phones, to even realize a play is being put on. Much less know what it is about. Live theatre still holds true to the imaginative world. Real talent takes place here and it really doesn’t matter as to what form physically it takes to be shown, because the definition of an actor doesn’t always requir...
