Beowulf the Epic Poem

...as other planes in store for him. One night in Herot Hall there was rejoicing and celebrating along with the strumming of a harp for the poets. Grendel cannot stand all the music and laughter coming from the hall. That night he quietly goes into the mead hall after the warriors are asleep and slaughters thirty of Hrothgar’s warriors. Grendel then silently slips back to his lair and crunches on what warriors he dragged back to his place. Grendel was not hesitant to murder those men. He actually enjoyed the massacre and it became a craving for him every night. Hrothgar is very sensitive and upset when he finds out that thirty of his warriors were slaughtered. Hrothgar let’s Grendel go unchallenged for those murders for twelve years. Grendel now feels that he is immortal and nobody can stop him. One day in another country a Geat warrior by the name of Beowulf hears about Grendel and Herot Hall from passing sailors in the harbor. Beowulf decides that he shall go and murder this monster that is causing all this trouble in Denmark. He picks out fourteen Geat warriors to accompany him on his journey to Denmark. When Beowulf and his men get to their destination they are greeted by Wulfar, one of the king’s feudal lords. Wulfar asks the men to lay their weapons down outside before going in to see the king. Only a few men including Beowulf goes in to see the king. Beowulf and the men that went in only have on their helmet and armor. He explains to Hrothgar that he is going to kill Grendel with his bare hands because he does not want his uncle to think less of him. After Beowulf talks to Hrothgar about eliminating Grendel there is a great feast in Beowulf’s honor. On the night of the feast Grendel comes up into the hall for his dinner and finds the Geat warriors lying on the floor sleeping. Grendel snatches one of the warriors up and kills him, but unknowing that Beowulf is awake and waiting. Beowulf grabs Grendel by the arm and rips off his shoulder, arm, and claw. Grendel escapes Beowulf’s grasp and flees back to his den to die. Beowulf then hangs Grendel’s body parts from the rafters of Herot showing that it is safe at night now. Grendel’s mother is upset and seeks revenge on Beowulf....
