Ben Franklin

...you have till it’s gone, and a person today won’t value his/her education until they can’t go back, for instance if they don’t have the money. Most kids that value their education the most are the kids who put themselves through school paying every penny themselves. Those are the kids that really know the sacrifice it takes to be there. In Franklin’s time, it was a privilege to go to school, so if you had the opportunity to read and write, you treasured it, kind of the way kids to day treasure going to clubs and concerts, etc. I think many of Franklin’s characteristics which are praised by many Americans are not all praiseworthy. He was a hardworking man, but I don’t agree with having to have everyone know and see you’re a hard worker. If you work hard, you and God know, even if others do not acknowledge that. For example, Franklin would leave his light on in his office for other people to see, and think he was up late working. To me this is not doing things to better yourself its more for other people to have a certain opinion of you. Franklin stressed hard work, education, freedom of religion and morality and freedom of religion. How important are these value in our country today? Do we live by being hard workers, or do we take the easier way out? In my opinion, generation by generation, our generation has become the laziest, because technology has evolved so much. Most of our population today in my opinion, don’t value their education as it used to be. Most people are getting their education to have jobs that make a lot of money, they’re not trying gain the knowledge that’s required for them to be in that profession. Many people today don’t have a passion for what they do, they do it all for the money, but they’re miserable getting up every morning to do what they’re supposed to love doing. I don’t think we as Americans live by freedom of religion because we condemn too many other people who don’t worship or pray as we might. For example, today our government and media have created an image of the Muslim world as ALL being terrorists and that their God “Allah”, is an evil God that teaches to kill, destroy, etc. In all reality we as Americans haven’t the slightest clue what Islam is about and what they stand for! So we don’t stand for freedom of religion because if we did we wouldn’t be so quick to condemn each other. I believe that Franklin’s values can be beneficial and dangerous to Christians depending on how we implement them in our lives. As I said earlier I’m in total disagreement with working hard or doing things for the sake of people knowing that I’m working hard. From a Christian point of view, Jesus told us that the non believers will say to him that they worship him and seek his face, but behind his back they will mock him and curse him, and to me this is the same as doing things for the sake of praise and gratitude, if you seek him and praise him he will know, just as if you work hard, the benefits will be for you and you alone! To me working in front of people just for the sake of praise is like only praying to God when you need something. It is showing you really don’t give your all to him, and that you can live without praising him with all you have. These virtues have impacted our country in bad ways from every angle. Our country has taken his thoughts and views and taken them to the ex...
