Sex- The problems of sexuality in moder Physcology
...le of the opposite sex. Premarital sex is a rarley discussed topic among young girls, and most operate under the “everyone is doing it” philosophy. This few however, is not shared by men. From an early age, men are taught to embrace their sexuality. They are taught to be hunters, seeking out women for casual sex instead of seeking meanigful relationships. Men are taught to put love and sex into separate catogories, looking for a “score” rather than a meaningful relationship. The level of participation goes up as the levels of discussion continues. Men sit around and talk openly about their sex lives, while women are instructed to keep it all inside. The differences are staggering. Men are more prone to infedalites then woemn, and men are also more likley to delay the selection of a primary sex partner. As Master’s and Johnson’s survey implicates, men with a primary partner are more likley then women to always have an orgasm, be extremly plesed physically and emotionally. Women are pressured therefore, into faking an oragasm and are more to fantasys. The many forms of sexual pleasurre vary. The two most widley used forms of “alternate pleasure” are fantasys and masturbation. Both men’s and women’s fantasies differ. Both tend to fantasize about someone other than their partner. Women tend to have more romantic fantasises, fulfilling the need they feel is lacking within the confinds of their own relationships. Men tend to fantasize more about explicit fantasies. They have images of different positions, different methods of seduction and more violent sexual practices their partner may be unwilling and afraid to try. Sex fantasies are usually of some type of forced contact, however, the actual practice of the forced action are not often enjoyed. The tendecy to masturbate is more often used with the practices of abstinance and the repression of sexual practices in mainstream society. Men usually tend to “explore” themselves more often and at an earlier age then women. Such actions are usually corrected by the parents, and therefore push the shame and guilt of masturbation further into a child’s subconscience. The practice is used privatley, rarley discussed and often seen as disgusting. Even in marriage the practice is used but rarley discussed as the belief that marriage is the only okay time to have sex. Other forms of “pleasure” such as kissing and touching, oral and anal sex and coitus gestures are used. Men tend to misintrepret kissing and touching, and usually end up rushing the woman into a sexual act prematurly. Anal sex is illgela in most states but has been reportadly used by sexual partners at least once. Oral sex is used most often in non-marital relationships. The pharses “head” and “fingering” are tossed around freely by mostly teenagers. Most people, at any age, have readily admitted to using some form of oral sex. Though the attitudes about oral sex are mostly negative, they are a very important part in the development of a peron’s sexuality. STD’s are a very dangerous part of human sexuality. The spread of the HIV viruses has made most sexually active people fearful, even obsessivly paranoid about their sexual health. However, the lack of knowlegde about the spread and prevention of STD’s has resulted in a sort of epidemic. Most teenagers, repressed by their parents, do not opnely discuss contrceptives. They assume that their friends are not using them, and therefore do not have to also. The most effective and widley used contraceptives are birth control (which is a combonation of 2 synthetic hormones estrogen and progesterone) and condoms. Condoms are a sheath (usually lubricated latex) worn over the penis during intercourse. Both are effective in the prevention are STD’s and unwanted prgnancies. The inaction of the RU 486 pill has also become an effective form of diposing of unwanted prgnancies. Studies and medical giudes have come up with many effective ways to prevent STD’s, but most people tend to not follow them. One of the reason’s is the ignorance about their spread. Most people have STD’s and do not even know about it. They have taken poor care of their reproductive parts, engaged in casual sex too often, or may have been just too ignorant to know what an STD was. Most people that are aware of their own STD’s do not stop their sexual contact. They tend to have the same amount of partners and often do not tell their partner’s about their condition. The best way of preventing an STD is to abstain from sexual activity. The roles of males and females engaging in premarital sex has chnaged. In the “old days” premarital sex was viewed as a terrbile and rarley done thing. If a gril was to engage in sex outside of marriage and get pregnent, they would be forced into a marriage rather quickly with the father of their child or sent away until they gave birth to spare the family shame. This was the practice throughout early America and remained unchanged until the late 60's and early 70's. Today, grils engage in premarital sex often and with many other partners. The values have not chnaged, premartial sex is still considered taboo, but it is considered more accepted by peers. The reason for this is the media. Movies, television shows and books have glorified sex. Shows like Friends give kids the imprsseion that having sex and children with multiple partners is ok. Movies about people doing a perfectly normal activity somehow evolves into a free for all sex romp. This has made a problem in modern society. Girls feel presseured to maintain their virgin image while still keeping up with their freidns. Boys double the amount of pressure put on girls, thinking ...
