Okonkwo down fall
...scapable downfall. The book sets up with Okonkwo (the main character) trying to lift this burden of debt that his father left him after he died, Okonkwo thinks of him as lazy and cowardly. The Ibo people did not hold this against him because he was destined for a greater life. He believed heavily on his customs and traditions, because he too wanted to acquire many titles. The fear of being a failure like his dad drives him day and day out to become a leader and also to be respected and feared by the people in his village. Ikemefuna was a child that was sent to live with Okonkwo because a member of his village killed an Umofia woman. Later Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna even though his village recommended him not to do so. The passion he has that persist inside him forces him to make moves that shows him to be leader and fearless. His irresistible determination to rise from the stigma his father left behind gives him the power to go to the limits to “impress” the village. One of the biggest contributors to his inevitable downfall was his time in exile. He was sent out of his tribe for seven years for unintentionally killing a member of his tribe. During his stay in exile he stayed hopelessly as the missionary’s religion surpass the traditions that was established. When his sentencing expired he could not wait to return. His author...
